Urgent Situation, Fast Response
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5.0)
“You guys are lifesavers”
One night, a large Canadian cannabis manufacturer – growing rapidly, scaling at an unbelievable rate – found themselves in an urgent situation. They operate in the kind of business where, if one thing holds up the supply chain, they could lose an entire crop.
At 9:00 p.m., they found they were out of white cotton T-shirt rags, which meant that they couldn’t ramp up their next day’s 6:00 a.m. shift in the harvesting room, because of Health and Safety requirements to fully sanitize any hazardous materials and clean up from the previous shift. They needed to get the next shift started or start losing money.
At 9:05, Kevin at ABS picked up their call. By 9:20, Steve was driving to ABS’ storage unit (which closed at 10:00) to pick up the items – which they had in stock, as ABS makes a point of keeping a month’s worth of their ongoing customers’ supplies on hand.
Home by 10:30, Steve parked his truck in his driveway and left the keys for Kevin to pick it up at 5 a.m. and deliver the order to the company. Kevin got the delivery there at 5:45. 300 employees could start their shift on time.
“You guys are lifesavers”, said the master grower. Now, ABS is asked to quote on all the plant’s supply needs – even items not yet in the warehouse!

“The accountant doesn’t have to pay multiple vendors, all with different payment terms.”
An Ontario tunneling company, poised to triple in size, needed a vast array of supplies and materials – on several job sites at once. Problem was, with only one buyer and one accountant, they simply lacked the time to source their supply requirements themselves. Typically, they would find themselves having to look at six or seven different specialty suppliers to get all that they needed, with six to ten job sites going at any given time.
Through a networking connection, Kevin suggested the buyer check out the new ABS website. With 256 products listed at that time, the buyer could see that they were able to get 80% of what they needed from ABS, and so, for the next job, simply gave Kevin their list. Kevin did the sourcing and moved a quote forward.
So the contract was fulfilled, with the added benefits of one invoice, cheaper costs from a single supplier, and lower freight charges.
For the next job, the company just called Kevin at ABS first – “Just take the list, source it, and quote”. Now, with ABS as their ongoing trusted supplies partner, the company is saving time and money. The accountant doesn’t have to pay multiple vendors, all with different payment terms. The buyer doesn’t have to spend valuable time on sourcing their supplies lists.

“ABS grew their business relationship from that first order to regular weekly orders”
March 2020. An Ontario based food manufacturer, like others in their industry, faced ongoing risk management issues in their supply chain. Then the pandemic hit, and their exclusive supplier, extremely hard hit, seemed to have gone down in service and up in price. With no other supplier “waiting in the wings”, what was the company to do?
Coincidentally, the two ABS partners had just landed a meeting with the company’s head buyer, hoping to sell them a 70% alcohol chemical disinfectant. This turned out not to be required by the company, but just as Steve and Kevin were about to leave, the buyer asked, “What else do you supply?”
Steve replied.: “PPE, gloves, shoe-covers, lab coats and so on. What do you need?”.“Bouffant caps?”
Kevin replied, “Would you like them in 21 inch or 24 inch cap sizes, and in white or in blue?”
Impressed, the buyer immediately asked the guys to quote on the bouffant caps and for their product catalogue.
Following this Friday afternoon meeting, an order was placed the next Tuesday, and delivered within two days. And then, far from just winning a first sale, ABS grew their business relationship from that first order to regular weekly orders, sourcing 75% of the company’s day-to-day operational needs.
ABS: not just product salesmen, but trusted supply partners.
